Bougainville voters will have to pay K4 ($US1.17) to complain about allegedly ineligible voters being on the electoral roll
The money will be refunded, however, if the complaint is proven correct.
Bougainville’s roll is being finalised as it prepares for an indicative referendum on independence from Papua New Guinea.
Chief referendum officer, Claudio Mauricio, saying the fee was part of a roll cleansing exercise, to prevent unnecessary complaints.
There has been an upsurge in voter registration, with a total of 202,028 now on the roll, Mr Claudio said.
Voters will be able to check the preliminary roll when it’s displayed in all the wards in Bougainville and at respective Provincial Electoral Commission Offices throughout PNG.
In Australia it will be placed at the PNG consulates in Cairns and Brisbane.
In the Solomons it will be in Gizo at a site yet to be confirmed, and in Honiara at the high commission.
