A newly established travel agency has opened its doors for business with the aim of attracting Chinese and Asian tourists to PNG.
Zoya Travel & Tours Limited is a business arm of Vitis Industries Limited.
Zoya Travel & Tours Limited Administration Manager, Margaret Natera told Sunday Chronicle in an interview that the tourism industry in PNG has the potential to grow the economy and the company is focused to attract more tourists.
“For the start, we are eyeing tourists from the Asian continent. We will do that on weekly basis and see how they come and how busy it will be,” She said.
Natera said the company provides bookings for local and international flights through only Air Niugini, booking of local and international hotels, hire cars, work permits, visas and birth certificates.
“One of the service we provide is arranging hire cars. For instance, if you are in Kavieng and do not have transport, we can be able to organize a hire cars for you,” she said.
General Manager for Vitis Industries Sergey Mosin said that the opening of the travel agency is a milestone and marks a grand beginning in travel for Papua New Guineans.
Mr Mosin said whether it’s to see the wonders of the world or exploring PNG, tourism is travel for pleasure or business; also the theory and practice of touring, the business of attracting, accommodating and entertaining tourists, and the business of operating tours.
“Tourism in PNG is a fledging industry but there are attractions for the potential visitor which include culture, markets, festivals, diving, surfing, hiking, fishing and the unique flora and fauna. PNG receives an increasing number of visitors each year, with approximately 184,000 international arrivals annually,” he said.
