SP PNG HUNTERS has named huge number of pre-season training squad on Monday at National Football Stadium, NCD.
SP Brewery commercial manger Moses Williams announced the 60-man squad for pre-season training.
“Seems like few months ago we just finished but here we are again to get ready for the next brand new season and what a season going to be,” Hunters chairman Graham Osborne said.
He said that 12 players from PNG U23 including Brendon Nima and Edward Ipape were in the PNG Kumuls squad against England Knights have been named in PNG Hunters pre-season training squad to join 15 other players.
“Players from the Southern, Highlands confederate as well as POM RFL, UPNG league and one from Alotau are given the opportunity,” he said.
“The squad will be put through pre-season training that started on Wed, Nov 21 and will continue till Dec 23. The squad will then be trimmed to 30 to make up the final SP Hunters.”
Commercial manager for SP Brewery Moses Williams has been very excited and happy to see players from the team taking this opportunity to become very competitive and going overseas to play rugby league.
National Gaming Control Board chief executive officer Imelda Agon said that on behalf of NGCB and the government, they are happy to seeing lot of players going to play overseas.
“Talking about unemployment in our country, this is basically an opportunity for young people to have a path way to build their carrier in rugby league,” She said.
Coach Micheal Marum thanked the board its continued support.
“All the training will be done in Port Moresby in National Football Stadium with the big group together,” Marum said.
