THE Gordon police station command has received a truck courtesy of the Moresby North-east MP John Kaupa to boost their Christmas and New Year operations in the electorate.
While handing over the keys to NCD/Central divisional commander Donald Yamasombi and Gordon Police Station Commander Chief Inspector Tobby Hamago, Mr Kaupa who also is the Minister for Housing and Urbanization, recapped the budget constraints to support all police stations in the electorate with the same treatment.
“I know I got three police stations, Boroko, 6 Mile and Gordon, plus a police institution and barracks. “It’s all in my electorate starting from Bomana and the budget is too tight,” he said.
“I cannot supply vehicles to all the stations in my electorate, but as a start going towards Christmas, I would like to present this truck to the Gordon Police Station.”
He made the presentation during the launch of the NCD special Christmas New Year operations held at the Jack Pidik Park last week.
“Police are here to protect lives and property. As we approach Christmas, we expect a turn of people from all 22 provinces into the city and their lives and properties, children, and everybody needs to be protected,” Mr Kaupa said.
He said the truck is one of the vehicles bought by former MP Labi Amaiu that were recouped for the purpose of accountability when he took office.
“Everything we do must be service oriented, properties of the state must be given to proper authorities such as the police, health and education, which are service oriented. So this is a start off,” he said.
“With the current economic situation we need to minimize our spending and manage our resources well.”
Mr Kaupa urged the three disciplinary forces – Correctional Services, Defence and Police – for their understanding in bearing with the current economic situation the country and the government are facing.
He said having a budget deficit is also good as it creates accountability and proper management in delivering basic services.
