OCEANIA Kung Fu Wushu President, Walt Missingham recently visited Port Morseby to facilitate the formation of the newest Oceania Kung Fu Wushu Federation member, ‘Kung Fu Wushu Papua New Guinea’ (KWPNG).
Missingham said PNG joins Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Samoa, New Zealand and Australia in what is the expanding presence of Kung Fu Wushu in the Oceania region.

The men also met with leading Wushu Kung Fu club in the country, the PNG Shaolin Wushu Kung Fu school and discussed their plans on expanding the style as a competitive sport in the country and the region.

Work is under way in pushing for Kung Fu Wushu to be a Pacific Games sport and the establishment of its national body in PNG is another step in that direction.

“This is an important step as we move to achieve the recognition of Kung Fu Wushu as a Pacific Games sport.

“Geoff (Hui) and his team have my complete confidence in their capacity to advance Kung Fu Wushu participation in PNG,” Missingham said.

Head of the PNG Shaolin Wushu Kung Fu School in PNG, Steven Ngandang welcomed the establishment of the new martial art sporting body saying that it provides new opportunities for martial artists and sports people.

“I have been striving to achieve something like this for a long time and I am very glad that the Oceania Kung Fu Wushu has come to PNG to develop this style,” he said.

He called on other Kung Fu clubs in Port Moresby and around PNG to work together and help raise Kung Fu Wushu in the country and the region.
