MOMENTUM is picking up with the PNG Mosquitoes (men) and Flames (women) preparations for the upcoming 2017 Sixth International Cup next month, in Melbourne, Australia.

AFL PNG’s senior football operations manager Rex Leka said the train on squad for both the men and women’s side are into their high performance training programs.

Most players on the squad are PNG-based players which Leka is confident will make up a formidable side with the inclusion of few overseas based players for the tournament slated for August 5-19.

The women’s Flame’s side will be making their second attempt which Leka is confident will make a push to raise eyebrows during the two weeks international tournament.

Leka said the inclusions of the overseas based players for the Mosquitoes train on squad will add some grit to the side in the tournament.

“It is a boost for us to have overseas based players to enhance the team’s strength and I am confident with their presence that we will be able to select a formidable side for international tournament,” Leka said.

The overseas based players selected in the squad are Gideon Simon, Jechonia Peni, John Ikupu, Stanis Agita, Matt Little, Willie Aisi and Emmaus Wartovo.

The final squad was announced during AFL PNG fundraising dinner at the Crowne Plaza Hotel last night.

However this paper was not able to get the final list of the team for both men d women when it went into print last night.
