HEKARI FC superstar David Muta has heightened Papaka FC’s capability in making an appearance in the inaugural 2017 National Premier League (NPL) grand final last weekend.
Papaka put on a hectic challenge against the champion club, however, went down 4-0 in the grand final fixture at the PNG Football Stadium last Saturday.
Muta applauded Papaka for fielding some of the finest rural talents who proved themselves beyond expectation throughout the season.
“Papaka is a team that gives us the challenge. When we meet them, they are always gives us a good run and they don’t give up on their efforts,” Muta said.
“And as witnessed today in the grand final, they made us to play hard and I want to congratulate Papaka boys for putting in their best efforts throughout the season and making an appearance in the inaugural NPL grand final. It is a good start for the club.
“I thank my players and they deserve to be the champions in the inaugural 2107 NPL season.”
Papaka coach and former international David Aua thanked his boys for their efforts, “and making it into the grand finale today is what we have achieved”.
Despite losing in the grand final, Aua is confident that the boys will pull on through in the next season.
Asked of his players’ performance, he said, “Yes this are all raw talents from the village and having them play at the national level is one step up for them.”
He said the players were given the opportunity through the Babaka sports association in the Rigo coast to test their capability at the national level.
“And they have proven themselves and we look forward for another season with greater aspirations lying ahead.”
