CURRENT PNG Schoolboys Under 16 rugby league coach Dennis Miall has been appointed the coach of the national women’s team.
PNGRFL Board Director Don Fox made the announcement after its meeting over the weekend.
“The PNGRFL Board endorsed the appointment of Dennis Miall as head coach of the PNG women’s rugby league team following recommendations from an independent selection panel,” Fox who presided over the meeting said.
He said Miall’s immediate task is to prepare the national side for the World Cup in Sydney, Australia later this year.
“PNGRFL CEO Reatau Rau has contacted Dennis of his appointment and has accepted the position,” Fox said. “Terms and conditions of his appointment and training programs will be discussed when they meet next week,” he said.
Miall who is currently the deputy principal (academic) at the Lae Secondary School said he was honoured and privileged to be appointed head coach of the National Women’s rugby league team.
“Thank you for the confidence the PNGRFL Board has shown towards my appointment.
“I accept the appointment and will give my best to help our women do us proud,” Miall said from Lae.
Miall, 45 from Siassi Island, Morobe Province has been the PNG U16 Schoolboys coach since 2012. He guided the PNG Junior Kumuls U19 side to Gold Medal glory at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland in 2014.
He has been coach of the Lae schoolboys since 2005, coach of the Northern Confederate schoolboys since 2012 and since 2014 is coach of the JKT Morobe Tigers in the Lae competition.
Miall holds an ARL Level 1 and PNGRFL Level 2 coaching certificates and the PNG Sports Foundation High Performance Certificate competency in Sports strapping.
Miall’s appointment as coach is for one year.
