Caption: Students and teachers at Gawar primary demonstrate kung fu aerobics

STUDENTS and teachers at remote Gawar Primary School in Rai Coast, Madang Province, were very excited when they were introduced to a series of basic Chinese kung fu aerobic exercises last week by a Chinese medical superintendent from the Ramu NiCo (MCC) Basamuk Refinery
The demonstration of Chinese kung fu aerobics by Dr Ming Meng was for the students to keep fit and healthy, and was part of Ramu NiCo awareness activity during the Company’s community awareness on its Operational Environment Management Plan (OEMP).
The 2016 last quarter OEMP community awareness was conducted to communicate to the communities matters regarding the environment which the company places emphasis on as per the requirement of its permit condition 他o the Conservation，Environment and Protection Authority .
The nickel/cobalt mine developer through its Basamuk Refinery Site Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Community Affairs department officers visited the school to give talk on through various approaches and activities the company was using to protect and mitigate on environmental issues.
Following the speeches, Dr Meng called for student volunteers who went through the demonstration with him. The HSE presentations involvied questions and answers between the officers and the students and teachers at Gawar primary school.
The program ended with free medical checks on the students and teachers and kind donation of the gifts including soccer balls, biscuits, sweets and note books to the school.
